Ficus microcarpa 'Tiger Bark' - Curved Trunk
This tall and elegant Ficus microcarpa 'Tiger Bark' with a gnarly curved trunk sits in a gorgeous glazed roughly 4" bonsai pot.
Ficus bonsai are relatively easy to care for (if you can grow succulents, you can keep these happy too).
Beginner Care Suggestions:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight, such as, a bright indoor window (southern or eastern exposure is ideal).
Watering: Water deeply and thoroughly when the top layer of soil begins to dry. Water should be running out the bottom of the pot each time you water. Once finished draining, return to its home and let it dry out again! Trees need Oxygen just as badly as water. Give it a nice big sip of water, let it dry out and repeat. Do not let it sit in standing water or soggy soil.
Temperature: Tropical bonsai should be kept inside year-round, except in summer when you can slowly acclimate it to the direct sun and always protected from night temperatures going below 60°F. Keep away from cold drafts from things like opening and closing doors or windows.
Pruning: Ideal time to prune is spring or fall. I don't recommend doing too much work during the hot summer months or during the shorter (in terms of daylight) winter months. That being said, they are vigorous growers that respond tremendously to hard pruning and partial defoliation, which helps build fine ramification and smaller leaf size, you know, what we are after in bonsai.
